Susquehanna Wins 2013-14 Landmark Conference President’s Cup

TOWSON, Md. – For the second time in three years and third in the last seven, Susquehanna University has won the Landmark Conference President’s Cup.

SU, which was ranked second in the standings after both the fall and winter seasons, rallied to finish first overall following the spring season. The Crusaders won a total of six conference championships as well as eight runner-up finishes. The titles came in baseball, men’s cross country, men’s lacrosse, men’s soccer, women’s swimming & diving and men’s outdoor track & field. SU qualified for the Landmark playoffs in seven of 12 sports and finished in the top half of the standings in 15 of 20 sports sponsored by the conference.

Susquehanna has been in the top three of the President’s Cup standings every year since 2008-09 and won the Cup in 2010, 2012 and 2014.

SU finished with an 8.82 average to edge Catholic’s 7.27 average. Moravian was third with a 6.95 average and Scranton finished fourth with its 6.88 average.

The President’s Cup was created in the inaugural year of the conference to recognize the best overall athletics program. It is awarded based on a formula that rewards institutions for regular season conference standings as well as results in Landmark postseason competition. Each team receives points based on its finish with top seeded teams receiving eight points, second place teams receiving seven points, etc. Additional points are awarded for conference postseason victories.

Individual sports use the championship team standings to award points and then add points for individual finishes.

The Landmark Conference sponsors 20 sport championships but at the end of the year, only 15 sport totals from each institution will be included to account for differences in sport sponsorship across the eight institutions.
