ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. – The Susquehanna baseball team dropped a pair of Landmark Conference games at Elizabethtown College, 5-4 and 8-1 Saturday afternoon.
The Blue Jays (23-16, 14-6) scored first in the bottom of the opening inning to take a 1-0 lead. However, Susquehanna (24-14, 15-5) answered with a run of its own in the top of the second when Jenkins homered to right field to tie the game at one.
The Crusaders took a two-run lead (3-1) in the top of the fourth when Matt Cassinelli singled to score Leone and Palsi singled to score Cassinelli. Elizabethtown scored two-runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning to knot the game at three.
SU took the lead in the top of the fifth inning when Leone hit a sacrifice fly to score Justin Cassinelli but it was the last run the Crusaders scored as the Blue Jays scored two more in the bottom of the seventh to win 5-4.
A six-run first inning for the Blue Jays put the second game of the day out of reach of the Crusaders as Elizabethtown won 8-2.
Susquehanna tallied three hits with Chris Ryan, Justin Cassinelli and Taylor Luckenbill supplying the offense. Justin Cassinelli picked up one RBI and one run scored on a solo homerun and Danny Gordon scored SU's second run.
The Crusaders cut the lead to five (6-1) in the top of the third inning when Justin Cassinelli homered to left field.
Elizabethtown scored two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 8-1. Susquehanna scored one more in the top of the seventh when Justin Cassinelli reached on a fielding error and Gordon scored but it was not enough as the Blue Jays won 8-2.
The Crusaders look to avoid three-game series sweep when they take on the Blue Jays Sunday, May 1 at 12:00 p.m.
