SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna baseball player Justin Cassinelli and women's track athlete Ashley West have been named SAAC/Pepsi Super Crusaders for the week ending May 1.
Cassinelli hit for the cycle in Sunday's 13-3 win over Elizabethtown to cap off a week in which he hit for a .625 batting average with 10 hits, nine runs scored and 10 RBI's. He tallied two doubles, one triple and four homeruns for a 1.625 slugging percentage and a .650 on-base percentage. He totaled at least one hit in all four games and had two games with three or more hits. He also scored at least one run in every game and had a week high six RBI's in a loss against Keystone.
This season, Cassinelli has started all 38 games and leads the team batting average (.479), hits (68), runs (53), homeruns (11) and is second in RBI's (42). He has 14 doubles, two triples and a .838 slugging percentage.
SU clinched the No. 1 seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament with Sunday's win over Elizabethtown and will host a Landmark Conference semifinal on May 7-8 in a best-of-three format; the team's opponent is still to be determined as several conference games were rained out this weekend. The Crusaders are 25-14 overall with a 16-5 Landmark Conference record.
West ran the 3000 meter for the first time in her outdoor career at the Penn Relays this week and posted a time of 10:18.98. Her time is a Susquehanna and Landmark Conference record.
The Crusaders will compete in the Landmark Conference Championships hosted by Juniata College from May 7-8.
