Baseball Wins Both to Start Florida Trip

Bobby Grigas pitched another gem to help the Susquehanna University Baseball team defeat No. 18 ranked Marietta, 10-0 and Cory Fallon had a pair of hits and a solid relief appearance to help the River Hawks beat Denison 6-4 to complete a two victory day to start the Florida trip at Port Charlotte Sunday.

Grigas shut down Marietta (2-2), ranked No. 18 in the latest D3baseball.com Top-25, allowing just three hits and striking out seven batters. The Susquehanna (3-4) offense scored once in the first and added two more runs in the fourth but opened up the game with three runs in the seventh and closed out the win with another four runs in the ninth for the final margin of victory.

Taylor Luckenbill, Zach Leone and Cole Luzins had two hits each and Danny Gordon scored three times to pace the River Hawks. Fallon hit a two-run homer in the fourth and added a sacrifice fly and RBI in the ninth to lead the team with three runs batted in.

Grigas improved to 2-0 with eight innings of work. Tyson Thrush pitched a 1-2-3 ninth inning to finish the shutout victory.

In the second game of the day, Susquehanna broke open a close game with a four-run seventh inning and went on to post the 6-4 victory over Denison (3-2).

Fallon finished with a pair of hits including a double and one run batted in but it was his arm that was the star of the second game as he came on as a relief pitcher and tossed three solid innings allowing one run on two hits and striking out six batters. Liam Conboy worked out of a jam in the ninth to record the save.

In the four-run seventh, Fallon had a double while Gordon and Luckenbill each singled and the River Hawks took advantage of three Denison errors to score four times.

Susquehanna continues the Florida trip with a single game against Wooster Monday.
