Sophomore Nick Berger along with seniors Dylan Jenkins and Cory Fallon each hit home runs to lead the Susquehanna University Baseball team to a 7-6 victory over York College Thursday afternoon in a non-conference game on Bollinger Field in Selinsgrove.
After York (18-21) manufactured a run in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead, Fallon smashed a two-out, two-run home run after Zach Leone walked to give Susquehanna (22-16) a 2-1 lead.
The Spartans regained the lead in the second inning with a pair of home runs including a two-run shot to take a 4-2 lead and added another solo home run in the third inning to extend the lead to 5-2.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Berger tied the game with one swing of the bat. Cole Luzins started the inning reaching base on a fielding error and Ben Burman followed with a single through the right side to put a pair of runners on base.
Berger stepped in and belted a home run to left field to plate three runs and knot the game at 5-5.
The score remained tied until the seventh inning when Jenkins hit the final home run of the game with one out to give the River Hawks the 6-5 edge. Later in the inning, Burman doubled to right center field with two outs and Berger followed with a shot to the base of the wall in centerfield for a triple to score Burman with the seventh run of the game.
The Spartans loaded the bases in the eighth inning before Jack Kinney was able to get an infield pop out and an infield ground out that allowed one run to score but closed out the inning with a fly out to right field.
Liam Conboy entered the game in the ninth and earned the save as the River Hawks converted three straight outs after the leadoff batter reached base on an error.
Danny Gordon, Jenkins, Burman and Berger were each 2-for-4 on the afternoon. Burman scored twice and Berger knocked in four runs to lead the River Hawks. Kinney picked up the win in relief and Conboy earned his third save of the year.
Susquehanna will play Sunday against Navy in Annapolis in final preparation for the Landmark Conference Tournament that begins next weekend.
