Collette Bender has been added to the Susquehanna University Athletics staff as the head cheerleading coach for the upcoming 2018 season according to Director of Athletics Pam Samuelson.
"We look forward to having Collette (Bender) on staff for the fall," said Samuelson. "The cheerleading team is an important part of the positive and energetic game-day experience for our students and fans at Susquehanna. An experienced head coach in this position is important for the success of the program and I am confident Collette will do well as the leader of the team."
Bender comes to Susquehanna after serving as the varsity athletics had cheerleading coach at the Mifflin County School District for the past six years. She also coached youth cheerleading from 1998-2006 and was a junior high school cheerleading coach from 2001-2006 while at Penn State University where she earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education.
Currently a kindergarten teacher in the Mifflin County district, Bender also earned a master's degree in Early Childhood Literacy from Wilkes University in 2011.
Bender will begin preseason practices with the Susquehanna Cheerleading team in August and the team will perform at all River Hawks football games.
