SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna football player Brandon Tinson and volleyball player Marykate Sherkness have been named the SAAC High Flyers for the week ending October 30.
Making his fifth start of the season, Tinson had eight tackles (three solo) with two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one pick and one fumble recovery in Susquehanna's 20-10 defeat over visiting Franklin & Marshall on Saturday afternoon.
This season, Tinson has played all eight games and has 16 solo tackles and eight assisted tackles for a total of 24. He has three tackles for loss and one interception to go with two pass breakups, three pass deflections, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble.
With Saturday's win, Susquehanna improves to 4-4 overall with a 4-3 mark in Centennial Conference action. The River Hawks hit the road to face McDaniel on Saturday, November 5 at 1:00 p.m.
Sherkness finished the week with 55 kills, 11 digs and four block assists as SU went 3-1 against regionally ranked teams at the Emory Tournament.
In the matches against Randolph-Macon and Clarkson, Sherkness led the team in kills with 20 and 12, respectively. In both of those matches her attacking percentage was over .300.
This season, Sherkness is third on the team in kills with 296 with 2.62 kills per set. She has 22 blocks, 60 digs and 11 assists.
The River Hawks finished the regular season with a 30-6 overall record and a 5-1 mark in the Landmark. On Wednesday, they will host Catholic in a Landmark Conference semifinal match.
