Senior Tommy Bluj has been selected as a nominee for the 2017 Allstate American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Good Works Team from Susquehanna University.
Bluj is one of 146 nominees nationwide for the annual award and he is one of 70 players for Division II and III from which 11 players will be selected for the honor. An additional 11 players from NCAA Division I schools will also be selected.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.
Bluj led the River Hawks with 57 receptions in 2016 and accounted for 590 receiving yards. He also led the team with 11 punt returns for 96 yards. Bluj was a Second Team All-Conference selection from the Centennial Conference in 2016.
The senior Ecology major with a minor in Earth and Environmental Sciences has completed several community service hours most notably with his church at home in Parsippany, N.J. and a pair of mission trips to West Virginia.
