Football Opens Preseason Camp for 118th Season

More than 115 members of the Susquehanna University Football team marched on to campus Friday for the start of preseason camp for the 118th time in school history.

The first team, back in 1892, played just one game but started a tradition that unofficially marks the start of another year at the University. That was 125 years ago and every year, with the exception of a three-year span from 1910-12, 1917 and another three year span from 1943-45 when there was no games played, the football players are the first to arrive on campus in preparation for the new year.

"We are really excited about the season especially after finishing last year with three straight wins," said Head Coach Tom Perkovich. "It all starts today but the guys have been working hard in the off season to be better prepared. It's great to see everyone back but they know we have a lot of work ahead of us especially the next few weeks as we get ready for Lycoming."

The first practice for the preseason is scheduled for Saturday morning and the team will host a preseason scrimmage against Wilkes at 1 p.m., Wednesday, August 23rd on Amos Alonzo Stagg Field.
