THE STORYLINE: The Susquehanna women's field hockey team opened its 2016 season with a 2-1 home win over Eastern Connecticut State University on day one of the SU's sixth-annual Connie Harnum Classic.
THE RECORDS: The River Hawks are now 1-0 while Eastern Connecticut State starts the season 0-1.
THE STREAK: This marks the third straight season-opening win for SU, two of which have come at the Connie Harnum Classic.
THE TURNING POINT: The game remained scoreless throughout the first half before sophomore Taylor Franco put the River Hawks on the board with back-to-back goals just under 10 minutes into the second half.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Susquehanna out-shot the Warriors 22-7 with 12 shots on goal. SU's Emily Novakovich led all players with nine shots while Franco totaled four and freshman Hunter Pittman had three. Goalie Morgan Ludlam faced six shots on goal and made five saves in 70 minutes of work.
FOR THE WARRIORS: Brianna Passero scored in the 54th minute to score Eastern Connecticut's only goal of the game.
UP NEXT: The River Hawks take on the Cougars of Kean University on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 5:00 p.m. in the Connie Harnum Classic championship game. Wilkes University will face Eastern Connecticut in the 1:00 p.m. consolation game.
