Field Hockey Shuts Out Rangers

THE MAIN STORY: The Susquehanna field hockey team blanked visiting Drew University 3-0 on Saturday afternoon, giving the River Hawks their 11th victory of the fall.

WHAT ELSE? SU improves to 11-2 overall, 8-1 at home and 4-1 in Landmark games. The team has now won six-straight games and Saturday's shutout was the team's fifth of the fall.

GOAL-SCORING FRENZY: The game was scoreless for nearly 23 minutes before Susquehanna went on a 3-0 run with all three goals scored in a span of just 12 minutes.

Three different players accounted for the three goals. Hunter Pitman's goal at the 22:58 mark broke the scoreless tie – and proved to be the game winner – and Heather Casey's goal less than 10 minutes later made it a 2-0 SU lead. Taylor Franco added an insurance goal off an assist from Pitman with one second remaining in the opening half.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The River Hawks had 18 shots to Drew's seven and the SU defense held the Rangers to just one shot in the first half. Pitman and Franco led all players with four shots apiece.

Freshman starting goalie Emily DiGaetano improved to 5-0 after making one save in her 35 minutes of work. Morgan Ludlam played the final 35 minutes and finished with four saves.

TEAM LEADERS: Pitman leads the team in goals (14) and points (31) while Franco is second in goals (11) and points (25).

: Saturday marked SU's annual Play for the Cure Game to raise breast cancer awareness.
