Men's Tennis Wins First Match of the Year Over PSU-Harrisburg, 6-3

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- The Susquehanna University men's tennis team recorded its first win of the 2009-10 season against visiting Penn State University-Harrisburg, 6-3, in a non-conference match at the James W. Garrett Sports Complex on Oct. 10.

Freshman Richard Fitzsimmons (Brielle, N.J./Lommis Chaffee, Conn.) won a three-set match at third-flight singles for Susquehanna (1-2 overall), 5-7, 6-2, 7-5, over his PSU-Harrisburg (2-2 overall) opponent.

Teammate and junior William Mellor (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) was a straight-sets winner from the fourth flight, 6-4, 6-1, while sophomore Grant Uber (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) claimed the fifth-flight point, 6-1, 7-5. Junior Bruce Osburn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) notched the Crusaders' final straight-sets victory from sixth flight, 6-1, 6-0.

Sophomore Matthew Quadrini (Escondido, Calif./Brunswick, Maine) and freshman Michael Hickey (Yarmouth, Maine/Yarmouth) cruised to victory in second-flight doubles, 8-2. Sophomore Alec Green (Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Mellor won third-flight doubles, 8-3.
