Men’s Golf Takes Fifth at Empire 8 Championships

After two rounds in the Fall and two more rounds this weekend, the Susquehanna University Men's Golf team finished fifth overall at the Empire 8 Championship Tournament at the Hershey Country Club in Hershey, Pa.

Susquehanna finished with a four-round total of 1,362 strokes finishing four strokes ahead of Nazareth College in the final standings. St. John Fisher won the team title with a 106 over par 1,250 score while Stevens was second (+141, 1,285) followed by Moravian (+148, 1,292), Scranton (+178, 1,322) and Susquehanna (+218, 1,362). The River Hawks finished ahead of Nazareth, Utica and Elmira in the eight-team competition.

Individually, Matthew Schaffner led Susquehanna as he took 10th overall with a +20 Friday and Saturday in the final two rounds of the tournament. He shot 81 on each of the last two days.

Alex Wager finished tied for 12th at +23 and Connor White was tied for 16th with a +24.

The River Hawks will play at Stevenson Thursday and then finish the season at the National Invitational Tournament at Glenmaura CC.
