SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The No. 1 seed Susquehanna men’s lacrosse team is headed back to the Landmark Conference championship game after defeating Drew 9-4 in Wednesday afternoon’s semifinal matchup. This marks the second-straight title game appearance for the Crusaders.
Susquehanna will host No. 3 seed Goucher on Saturday at 5 p.m.
SU (10-7) held the Rangers (5-10) scoreless for two of the four quarters while more than doubling up Drew in shots, 45-21. Pat Brogan (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield), Nick Citron (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Austen Lein (New Vernon, N.J./Madison) all finished with two goals and one assist. Crusader goalie Jared Knowlton (North Salem, N.Y./Kent School) made six saves in his 60 minutes of work.
The game was tied at one after seven minutes of action before the Crusaders went on a run of four unanswered goals that stretched into the second and third quarters. Citron’s goal with 3:17 left in the second quarter put his team ahead 4-1 at the midway point of the game.
Conor Boyland (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) scored SU’s fourth-straight goal with 11:45 left in the third quarter for a 5-1 game. Drew did score three of the final four goals of the third quarter to trim the Crusaders’ lead to two, 6-4, heading into the final 15 minutes of play.
SU’s defense blanked Drew for those final 15 minutes, though, while adding three goals of its own from three different players. J.B. Montane (Reisterstown, Md./Loyola) struck with 8:55 to play to make it 9-4 and that remained the final score as Drew was shut out.
