Big Third Quarter Propels Men’s Lacrosse Past Muhlenberg

Chet McLaughlin scored four goal in the third quarter as the Susquehanna University Men's Lacrosse team used a 6-1 advantage in the period to pull ahead of Muhlenberg and went on to post a 12-4 victory Wednesday night in a non-conference game at Scott Wood Stadium in Allentown.

Three of McLaughlin's goals in the period were man-up as the River Hawks (2-0) were 4-of-7 in the period in man-advantage opportunities. The third quarter scoring burst opened up a close game as Muhlenberg (0-1) trailed 3-2 at the halftime intermission.

Andrew Porzio scored both of his goals in the second quarter including one man-up goal after the River Hawks had fallen behind 2-1 in the first 15 minutes of the game.

The Mules trimmed the lead to 9-4 with a goal early in the fourth quarter but Alec Tzaneteas, Kyle Watts and Preston Ouellette each scored in the final 12 minutes to put the game away for Susquehanna.

Tzaneteas finished with two goals and two assists for four points, McLaughlin had four points on his four third-quarter goals, Prozio and Jake Smolokoff finished with two goals and an assist each.

Dylan Abplanalp improved to 2-0 and had another big night with 12 saves as he faced 16 shots on the night. The sophomore goalie has registered double-digit saves in five of his last six games.

The River Hawks play at King's College Saturday and at Franklin & Marshall next Wednesday.
