SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna University men’s and women’s swimming team defeated the visitors from Albright College with a combined team score of 229-181.

The men won 123-82, while the women tallied a 106-99 victory. For the men, the win gave them an undefeated record in dual meets (excluding relay meets) while for the women, it marked their first win over Albright since 1995.

SU has six seniors on this year’s team. Those six seniors combined for four first place finishes.

In the first event of the meet, the SU “A” squad of senior Christie Savard, sophomores Jamie Platt and Abby Gernert and freshman Samantha Meringolo recorded a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:57.99.

Individually, Savard placed first in the 100 backstroke and second in the 200 individual medley. She clocked in at 1:03.05 in the back and 2:16.66 in the IM.

Platt had two second-place finishes in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke. Her times in those events were 27.04 and 1:14.89, respectively.

Meringolo swam on the runner-up squad in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:54.43. She also finished second in the 100 butterfly in a time of 1:03.43.

The other members of the 400 relay team were Gernert, senior Lauren Snyder and freshman Katelyn Mays.

Snyder clocked in an 11:30.17 second place finish in the 1,000 free in her individual event.

The story on the women’s portion of the meet was sophomore Devin Lessard. Lessard had three first place finishes in the 200 free, 100 fly and 500 free. She touched the wall in 2:02.23 in the 200, a personal-best, 1:01.45 in the 100 and 5:28.45 in the 500.

Freshman Elaine Anderson followed right behind Lessard in the 500 with a time of 5:34.70.

On the men’s side, the team notched eight first place finishes in the meet.

In the 200 medley relay, the group of freshmen Jacob Boylan and Cameron Boster, sophomore Chadd Lee and senior Bryan Watts placed second with a time of 1:44.47.

Boster went on to register two second-place finishes in the 200 free and 100 breast in times of 1:48.71 and 1:03.22, respectively.

Lee put together a solid meet, placing first in the 200 IM and second in the 100 fly. He posted times of 2:01. 63 and 54.52 in those events.

In the 400 free relay, sophomores Griffin Kearney and Taylor Cole, freshman Tyler Long and senior Jeff Kormanik teamed up for a second place finish with a time of 3:22.05.

Kearney had two runner-up finishes in the 200 IM (2:03.64) and 500 free (5:07.02), while Long was the top swimmer in the 1,000 and 500 frees. He posted times of 10:27.60 and 5:02.32.

Freshman Laurence Abel followed Long in the 1,000 with a time of 10:29.87, while Kormanik posted the top time in the 100 fly with a 54.12 showing.

Freshman Joshua Heller had two top finishes in the 50 and 100 frees with times of 21.67 and 48.64.

Seniors Joe Scheno and Colin Sullivan were top finishers in the 100 back and 100 breast. Scheno swam the back in a time of 55.25, while Sullivan finished in 1:02.21 in the back.
