Senior Bill Crumrine won both distance events as the Susquehanna University men's swimming team returned to competition for the second half of the year and has been recognized by the Landmark Conference with the Swimmer of the Week award as announced by the conference office Monday.
Crumrine won the 1,000-yard freestyle race early in the meet with a winning time of 10:17.32 and then took first in the 500-yard free later in the afternoon touching he wall first in a time of 4:58.43. He led the entire race and had to hold off a late charging Franklin & Marshall swimmer for the win in the 500.
The senior was also involved in the closest finish of the meet in the last event on the schedule. The Susquehanna 4x100 free relay, with Crumrine swimming the second leg, took second place. The team nearly won the event with the difference between first and second place being just .04 seconds.
The River Hawks have two meets this week swimming at Bloomsburg Friday and hosting Goucher Saturday in the first home meet of the second semester.
