Susquehanna Men Remain in Third at Landmark Championships

Eric Lawrence and Shane Sullivan had strong performances for the Susquehanna University Men's Swimming and Diving team Saturday to keep the River Hawks in third place in the team standings at the Landmark Conference Championships in Germantown, Maryland. Competition continues Sunday with the final events of the meet.

Lawrence and Sullivan started the day helping the River Hawks to a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay. David Grove, Sullivan, Lawrence and James Orzolek teamed to race a 1:35.59 to win the opening event of the evening finals session.

Lawrence later finished second in the 400-yard IM with a time of 4:11.48. Ryan Prater (11th), Henry Chang (12th) and Jake Mount (16th) also scored in the event.

Sullivan tied for first in the 100-yard breaststroke with the exact same time of 58.46 as Scranton's Patrick Blaser to share the top podium spot.

Grove and Orzolek were second and fourth respectively in the 100-yard backstroke while Owen Madden was 10th in the race.

The evening was capped by a third place swim for the 4x200 free relay as Lawrence, Ryan Nathan, Bill Crumrine and David Miller came back from a two second deficit in the final leg to finish third by just .04 seconds away from second place in one of the closest finishes of the day.

In the team standings Catholic leads with 556 points followed by Scranton (441.5 points) and Susquehanna (370.5). The River Hawks are in front of Drew (295), Marywood (221.5), Elizabethtown (194.5) and Goucher (153).
