Men Finish With Several Lifetime Bests at Gettysburg

Led by a fourth place and third place finish for David Grove, the Susquehanna University Men's Swimming and Diving team finished with impressive individual marks at the Gettysburg Invitational Friday and Saturday in Gettysburg.

Grove was fourth in the 200 Back with a time of 1:58.20 for a lifetime best time and was also third in the 100 Back with a time of 53.28 to lead the River Hawks. The team finished in fourth place as a team with 434 points. Gettysburg won the team competition for the men.

Grove was also involved in three relays that had impressive finishes. He swam the lead leg of the 400 Free Relay with David Brady, Ryan Rizzuto and Brett Walker as the relay finished eighth. He then teamed with Owen Kelly, Brady and Walker for an 8th place finish in the 200 Free Relay and capped the meet with Shane Sullivan, Rizzuto and Kelly for a 6th place finish in the 400 Medley Relay.

Kelly added a pair of lifetime best times in the 1,650 and 500 Free races as he finished 6th in the mile with a time of 17:37.06 and was 10th in the 500 with a time of 4:58.94.

The 1,650 Free actually featured three additional River Hawks with strong finishes. Brandon Heese was 7th with a lifetime best time of 18:07.64. He also had a lifetime best with his 1,000 yard split in the mile race. Henry Chang (8th) and Bryan Colby (9th) also finished strong in the mile.

Sullivan was 6th in the 200 Breast and 9th in the 100 Breast while Owen Madden was 7th in the 200 Back.

Madden also anchored the 9th place 400 Free Relay as he teamed with Mike Smerlick, Colby and Henry for a time of 3:26.34. Madden swam the lead leg of the 800 Free Relay with Heese, Kelly and Walker for a 7th place finish while Smerlick, Anthony Principe, Sullivan and Heese took 9th place in the 200 Free Relay for the River Hawks.
