Nicholas Meale had two of the closes matches for the Susquehanna University Men's Tennis team Saturday in a Landmark Conference match at Goucher but the River Hawks were upended by a 9-0 score in the first conference match of the season at Towson, Maryland.
Meale dropped a close 6-4, 6-3 decision at No, 5 singles and also partnered with Aston Collins for an 8-3 loss at No. 3 doubles for the River Hawks.
The Gophers won the doubles matches by scores of 8-2, 8-3 and 8-3 and then swept the singles matches with the closest scored matches at No. 5 and No. 6. Collins dropped a 6-4 decision in the first set at No. 6 before falling 6-0 in the second set.
The River Hawks return home to play a make-up match against Catholic Sunday. The match was originally scheduled to be played last Sunday but was postponed due to weather.
