Men’s Tennis Drops a Second Straight Close Match

After falling by a 5-4 score last Sunday against Catholic, the Susquehanna University Men's Tennis team fell by the same close score for a second consecutive match as Elizabethtown scored the one-point decision over the River Hawks Saturday afternoon on the James Garrett Center Courts in Selinsgrove.

Elizabethtown took a 2-1 lead in the match with a pair of doubles wins with close matches at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. The tandem of Ben Ornstein and Ryan Seibert fell by an 8-6 score at No. 1 doubles and the team of Alexander Dove and Alexander Cocolas lost by an 8-5 decision at No. 2 doubles for the River Hawks.

The No. 3 doubles team of Nicholas Meale and Ashton Collins posted an 8-1 decision as Susquehanna trailed 2-1 heading into singles play.

Elizabethtown won matches at the No. 3 and No. 6 positions while Seibert scored a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4 and Meale won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 for Susquehanna.

Dove won a three-set match at No. 2 singles with a 6-3 decision in the first set before falling 4-6 in the second. He won the third set 6-3 to knot the team score at 4-4.

At No. 1 singles, Ornstein won the opening set with a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-4) victory but fell 6-4, 6-0 in the second and third sets as the Blue Jays posted the overall win.

The River Hawks will look to rebound from the loss with another home match Sunday against Moravian starting at 1 p.m.
