In a very competitive field of Division I, II and III athletes at the 33rd Annual Jim Taylor Invitational Outdoor Track and Field meet Saturday in Selinsgrove, the quartet of Susquehanna University athletes posted impressive top-five finishes in their respective events.
Robert Marks took top honors in the javelin with a throw of nearly 200 feet as he finished first with a 199' 11" throw which is the fifth best effort in the country so far this year. Joshua Brown was nearly as good, finishing second in the event with the seventh best throw in the country with a 197' 1" throw to take second in the event.
Chris Petraskie followed up his impressive indoor season with three top-three finishes on the day. He was second in the triple jump with a 44' 7 ½" finish. He was the top Division III finisher in the event and had the 11th best triple jump in the country this year. He was also third in the long jump (21' 4 ¼") and tied for third in the high jump (6' 3 ½").
Matthew Gass was also a multiple top-five finishes with a third place finish in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.96 which ranks in the top-20 nationally and a fifth place finish in the 200-meters with a 22.52 time.
The River Hawks had 13 top-10 finishes on the day. Kaleb Waiwada was seventh and Ciaran Fisher was 10th in the 800-meter race, Victor Gonzalez was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles, Brown was ninth in the shot put and Ryan Bertsch was 10th in the shot put for Susquehanna.
Bertsch was also 16th in the hammer and 17th in the discus, Peter Lynch captured 12th in the 3K steeplechase, Andrew Farrell was 11th in the 110-meter hurdles and Armond Owens took 16th in the 100-meter dash.
Susquehanna will compete next at the Muhlenberg Invitational on April 1.
