Crusaders Drop Both at Moravian; No. 2 Seed in Landmark Playoffs
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna University softball team
dropped both games at Moravian College, 2-0, 5-1, in the last
regular season games of the season. The Crusaders will now wait
until next week’s Landmark Conference tournament, where they
will be the No. 2 seed.
SU (27-9, 9-3) only managed to produce seven hits in the double
dip, compared to 11 for Moravian (32-6, 11-1).
In Game One, Moravian plated two runs in the bottom of the second
which proved to be the difference in the opener. Senior
Cara Swerdlow (Bloomfield, N.J./Bloomfield)
suffered the loss in her complete game performance. Swerdlow only
allowed three hits and struck out two but walked six batters, one
of which led to the opening run.
Senior infielder Taylor Crawford (Matamoras, Pa./Delaware
Valley HS), junior infielder Kate Reese
(Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) and freshman catcher
Brittany Devlin (Furlong, Pa./Central Bucks East)
each went 1-for-3 in Game One. Crawford’s hit was the lone
double of the game for either team.
Senior infielder Kim Rubino (Parsippany,
N.J./Parsippany) batted 1-for-2, while fellow senior
infielder Brennan Balfour (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape
Elizabeth) was 0-for-2 but stole a base.
In the nightcap, sophomore Sarah Hoffman (Laceyville,
Pa./Wyalusing Valley) was dealt the loss in her complete
game effort. Hoffman surrendered eight hits and four earned runs
while striking out three batters.
Junior outfielder Lisa Finizio (Oakland, N.J./Indian
Hills) went 1-for-4 with a run batted in, while sophomore
outfielder Lauren Gilbert (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) was 1-for-3 with a double and run scored.
Devlin stroked the other hit for the Crusaders in Game Two.
