Crowe, Murphy Named April Rookies of the Month

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Men’s track and softball are represented as distance runner Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa. / State College Area) and outfielder Brianna Murphy (Hazlet, N.J. / Mater Dei) have been selected as the SAAC April Rookies of the Month.

Crowe set a personal record in the 10k at the Landmark Conference Championships after crossing the line at 32:46.86, good for fifth place and earning four points for his team. This time was more than two minutes faster than his previous PR. He also placed seventh in the 5,000m run with a mark of 15:45.14.

This year, Crowe has the third fastest 3,000m in SU history (8:56), the sixth best 10k (32:46) and seventh best 5k (15:08).

Crowe helped lead the men’s team to a second place finish at the conference championships.

Murphy helped lead the softball squad to the number one seed in the upcoming Landmark Conference playoffs.

She batted .307 (12-for-39) in April with 15 runs scored, four RBI and two walks while helping the Crusaders to a 10-4, 5-1 record during the month.

For the year, Murphy is second on the team in runs (28), tied for second in triples (5), third in batting average (.353), third in slugging percentage (.506) and fourth in hits (30).

SU begins the conference playoffs by hosting number four seed Catholic on Friday, May 4 at 11:00 a.m.
