Think you’re seeing double out on the softball field? Think again. It’s just twins Kathryn and Lauren Gilbert, seniors on the Susquehanna softball team. Hailing from Mechanicsburg, Pa., both have been standouts for the Crusaders, Kathryn as an outfielder and Lauren at second base.
After making it to the NCAA Tournament their freshman year, they
are motivated to return as they round out their college career.
“Our overall team goal is to win the conference and go to the tournament,” Kathryn said. “If we win the conference, we would get a bid.”
As they continue to strive for success on the field, they’ve also dedicated time to service. Last May, they volunteered on the Hurricane Relief Team: New Orleans, and took a great deal away from that experience.
“I think one of the most rewarding aspects of this trip was going to the home dedication ceremonies and seeing how appreciative the families were for their new home and the people who help make Habitat for Humanity possible,” Kathryn said. “Knowing I was a part of that is something I’ll never forget and I’m truly grateful that I had the opportunity to be a part of such an amazing experience.”
“You are able to learn about the city, give back to the
New Orleans community and have an awesome experience all at the
same time,” Lauren added. “HRT 17 started our journey
as a bunch of strangers, but by the time we left, we were all great
Lauren, a public relations and advertising major, is also a hometown news writer in the University Communications Office, Newsletter Co-Head within Sterling Communications and works in the equipment room.
Kathryn is an accounting major who is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta and a member of the accounting club.
Make sure to cheer on the Gilbert twins as they look to compete for a spot in the NCAA tournament!
