Softball Drops a Pair of One-Run Games

Jackie Gore hit a two-run homer in the first game and Kelly Miller was 3-for-3 in the second game for the Susquehanna University Softball team but the River Hawks dropped a pair of one-run games 3-2 and 1-0 Thursday afternoon to Misericordia University on Anderson Field in Dallas. Pa.

Gore connected on a two-run, two-out  home run in the top of the first inning to give Susquehanna (19-11) an early lead.

Misericordia (15-15) answered with a three-run inning in the third to take the lead from the River Hawks. The first Cougar run was scored with an RBI single while the next two runs were unearned after an error extended the inning.

The River Hawks threatened to tie the score or regain the lead with runners on base in the fourth and again in the sixth but were unable to push across the tying run.

Gore was 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI. Alexa Gonzalez struck out five and allowed seven hits without walking a batter.

In game two, the only run of the game was scored on a one-out home run in the bottom of the fourth inning for Misericordia.

The River Hawks left runners on base in the first, second, fourth, fifth and left bases loaded in the top of he seventh but failed to score against the Cougars.

Leigh Ann Greenwald and Kasey Bost each had a pair of hits while Miller was 3-for-3.

Jamie Fesinstine allowed a run on three hits for Susquehanna.

The River Hawks return to Landmark Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader at Elizabethtown.
