Softball Splits Non-Conference Games at Wilkes

Brooke Kohler and Emilie Boman combined for a perfect 7-for-7 at the plate for the Susquehanna University Softball team as the River Hawks posted a 15-5 win in the opening game of a doubleheader against Wilkes University Wednesday afternoon on the Ralston Athletic Complex in Edwardsville, Pennsylvania.

Susquehanna (22-12) dropped the second game of the twin bill with an 8-1 loss.

The River Hawks led from the start in the opener with two runs in the first and one more in the second. After Wilkes (23-11) scored a run in the bottom of the second inning, Susquehanna rallied for four runs in the third to take a 7-1 lead.

Wilkes answered with four runs in the bottom of the third inning and neither team scored again until the sixth.

In the sixth, Kohler forced one run in with a bases loaded walk and then Boman drilled a double down the right field line to score two more as the River Hawks scored three to take a 10-5 lead. Susquehanna added five more insurance runs in the seventh to close out the scoring.

In game two, the Susquehanna bats went cold and the team managed just one run and five hits.

Five different players had one hit each for the River Hawks as Boman, Jackie Gore, Lauren Creamer, Alexa Gonzalez and Kasey Bost each had a hit for the Susquehanna offense.

The River Hawks will face Lebanon Valley Friday at home and then take of Landmark Conference foe Drew Saturday for senior day as Jamie Fesinstine, Lauren Creamer and Danielle Vollono will be honored between games of the conference doubleheader.
