Softball Sweeps Drew in Final Landmark Games

Emilie Boman knocked in six runs in the opener and Jackie Gore had three hits including a home run and a triple in the second game as the Susquehanna University Softball team scored a pair of run-rule victories over Drew University Saturday in the final regular season Landmark Conference doubleheader on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

The River Hawks (24-12 overall, 10-2 Landmark) won the opener 11-0 and took the night cap 10-2 scoring seven times in the bottom of the sixth to close out the victory.

In the opener, Susquehanna scored twice in the first and three times in the second to take the early lead and then added five runs in the third to break the game open. In the first Brooke Kohler tripled and came home on a Boman single before Gore doubled and came home on senior Lauren Creamer's single for the 2-0 lead.

In the second inning, senior Danielle Vollono singled up the middle with two runners on to score Leigh Ann Greenwald and Boman knocked home two more runs with a two-run single later in the inning.

Boman had the big hit in the third inning as well with bases loaded double that scored three runners while Vollono and Emily Lear each had run scoring singles as well to help Susquehanna take a 10-0 lead.

Vollono recorded another run-scoring single to cap the scoring in the fourth.

Senior Jamie Fesinstine recorded the win allowing just two hits and striking out two batters in five innings.

In the second game, Susquehanna jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Gore hit a long, two-run homer to left field to open the scoring.

Drew (9-22, 3-9) cut the lead in half in the third with its first run of the day with a one-out triple and a sacrifice fly.

After Kasey Bost earned an RBI with a sacrifice fly scoring Greenwald in the fourth, Drew scored again in the top of the sixth to make it a 3-2 game but the River Hawks exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the inning to take an eight-run lead and end the game.

In the bottom half of the inning, Boman and Creamer had doubles and Gore added a triple to her offensive day for the River Hawks.

Susquehanna will close out the regular season Tuesday with a non-conference doubleheader against Gettysburg at home and then start the Landmark Conference Tournament Frida with its first game coming against Catholic.
