Softball Picks up First Win in Day Two Split

Brooke Kohler sparked a seventh inning rally as the Susquehanna University Softball team came from behind with four runs in the final inning to post a 7-4 victory over Marietta College Sunday morning to earn its first win of the season at the Emory and Henry College Tournament in Emory, Virginia.

The River Hawks (1-3) dropped the second game of the day as Case Western won an 11-2 decision in the second game of the day.

Against Marietta (0-3), Susquehanna jumped ahead with single runs in the first, third and fourth innings before the Pioneers rallied for four runs in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead.

Kohler and Heather Pearson started the seventh inning with singles and Emilie Boman reached on an error to load the bases. With one out, Kasey Bost delivered a run-scoring single to tie the game and with two outs, McKayla Brady brought home two more runs with her single to centerfield. Brittany Hebda closed out the scoring with an RBI single that scored Bost from third for the 7-4 lead.

Boman was 3-for-4 in the game while Kohler, Pearson, Leigh Ann Greenwald and Brady each had a pair of hits.

Amanda Seckinger started and allowed a pair of earned runs in 5 2/3 innings before Gabby Bubba came on to finish the game and earn her first collegiate win with a hit and two strikeouts in 1 1/3 innings.

Against Case Western, Greenwald was 3-for-4, Bost was 2-for-2 and Kelly Miller was 2-for-3 to lead the offense for Susquehanna that delivered 11 hits but left 10 runners on base.

The Spartans scored four runs in the second inning, three more in the fourth and added four in the bottom of the sixth to end the game.

Susquehanna is now off until a 9 a.m. game next Sunday against St. Norbert College in the first game of the Florida Spring Training trip.
