Courtney Adams scored a game-high 23 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Susquehanna University Women's Basketball team but a pair of 3-point baskets late in the game for Juniata College gave the Eagles a 58-51 victory in the Landmark Conference contest Wednesday night in O.W. Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove.
Susquehanna (8-11 Overall, 3-6 Landmark) tied the game at 40-40 as Adams connected on a 3-pointer late in the third quarter. Juniata (18-2, 7-2) answered with the first six points of the fourth period.
Erin McQuillen hit a jumper and a pair of free throws to draw the River Hawks back to within a basket but Juniata scored seven of the next nine points including one 3-pointer to take a seven-point edge at 53-46.
With 1:37 left to play, the Eagles hit another 3-pointer to take a nine-point lead. A late 3-pointer by Adams trimmed the lead down to seven points but the River Hawks could not close the gap any further as the Eagles ran out the clock for the win.
Adams was 10-for-20 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers, nine rebounds and six blocked shots in the game. McQuillen added 11 points while Megan McFadden added five points, five rebounds and three blocks for the River Hawks.
Susquehanna takes to the road Saturday with a Landmark Conference contest at Goucher.
