SELINSGROVE, Pa. – For the third year in a row the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team will be playing in the Landmark Conference title game as the No. 2 seed Crusaders defeated No. 3 seed Drew 20-12 in Wednesday evening's semifinal game. In the win, senior midfielder Emma Ehler (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) netted the 200th goal of her career.
The Crusaders will now travel to No. 1 seed Catholic on Saturday in a 1 p.m. game.
SU led by only three goals (12-9) with just 12:36 remaining in the game before out-scoring the Rangers 8-3 over the remainder of the game to pull away and put the game out of reach.
Michelle McGinniss (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and Ehler each finished with five goals with three other players netting at least two. Meredith Crane (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) had four goals and two assists.
The Crusaders out-shot Drew by significant margin, 50-27, and won 22 draw controls to the Rangers' 12 with McGinniss accounting for eight of those wins. Susquehanna also had just 14 turnovers all game while the SU defense forced 23 Drew turnovers.
Goalie Alyssa Rothman (Trooper, Pa./Methacton) had eight saves, four in each half.
The game stood tied at two less than six minutes into the action before the Crusaders went on a 5-0 run with Brynn Reid (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) scoring two of those five goals. Drew struck three times over the remaining 15 minutes of the half, including a goal with 14 seconds remaining, but SU still maintained a 10-6 lead at the midway point.
The Rangers netted the first goal of the second half and back-to-back goals from Drew's Nikki Kleiman made it a 12-9 game with 12:36 on the clock. Susquehanna countered with four unanswered goals – two from Ehler – to make it 16-9 with 9:02 left to play.
The Crusaders proceeded to put four goals on the board over a 5:45 minute span to end the game. Ehler scored the final goal of that run to make it 20-11 with a mere 2:04 remaining to cap off the scoring for SU.
