Narrow Road Loss for Women’s Lacrosse

TOWSON, Md. – A goal by Brooke Klair with six seconds remaining pulled the Susquehanna women's lacrosse team within one goal of the lead against Goucher but time ran out on SU and the team fell 10-9.

The Crusaders rallied from an 8-3 deficit to twice pull within one of the lead but they could not complete the comeback.

Klair led SU with three goals and one assist. Annie McElaney and Kelcie Ehler had two goals apiece while Becky McHugh chipped in two assists.

Susquehanna (6-8, 3-2) edged the Gophers (8-7, 2-3) in shots, 27-23, but had nine draw controls to Goucher's 11.

Starting goalie Alyssa Rothman racked up seven saves in just under 26 minutes of work. Carolyn Figliola had three saves in her 34 minutes of play.

Goucher led 3-0 10 minutes into the game before Ehler netted back-to-back goals for a 3-2 game at the 18:44 mark. McElaney tied the game at three on a goal with 13:12 remaining but Goucher ended the half on a 5-0 run to lead 8-3 at the midway point of the game.

SU came out of halftime and scored three unanswered goals from three different players to get within two (8-6) of the lead with 21 minutes still to play.

Back-to-back goals by Shannon Kinney and Klair made it 9-8 with less than 14 minutes to play before Goucher's Sophie Smith again made it a two-goal game (10-8) with 5:33 remaining.

That remained the score until Klair's goal at the six-second mark but SU was unable to get another shot off before time expired, ending the game 10-9 in favor of Goucher.
