Defense Shines in 15-4 Win over DeSales

Caroline Rabiecki scored five times and the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team's defense limited DeSales to seven second-half shots as the River Hawks cruised to a 15-4 victory Wednesday afternoon in a non-conference matchup on the Turf Field in Center Valley.

Rabiecki scored three minutes into the game to give Susquehanna (4-3) and early lead but DeSales (2-5) answered less than a minute later to knot the score at 1-1.

The River Hawks responded with seven straight goals to end the first half and also scored the first two goals of the second half to take a commanding 10-1 lead. Rabiecki had four goals in the run including both goals to start the second half. Liv Cohn and Mel Barracato each scored twice in the run and Kathrina DeMaio added a goal for the River Hawks as well.

DeSales stopped the run with a pair of consecutive goals with two free-position goals in a span of less than three minutes but Susquehanna regained the momentum and rattled off five more goals over the next 10 minutes to take a 15-3 lead seal the victory.

DeMaio added her second of the game, Cohn and Barracato added to their scoring totals with single goals and Christine Hoerman and Stephanie Dowling each scored in the late run.

Rabiecki led the River Hawks with five points on her five goals, DeMaio had four points with two goals and two assists while Barracato and Cohn each finished with three points. DeMaio had four draw controls and Brooke Burnett caused three turnovers to lead Susquehanna.

Freshman Libby Dex stopped 10 of the 14 shots she faced as the defense forced 24 turnovers and picked up 29 ground balls. DeSales struggled to clear the ball with just four successful clears in the 12 attempts for the game.

Susquehanna will play next in the Landmark Conference opener Saturday afternoon against Elizabethtown on Sassafras Field.
