Women’s Lacrosse Falls One Goal Short on Senior Day

A goal by Brooke Klair less than nine minutes into the game gave the Susquehanna University Women's Lacrosse team a 3-2 lead and the River Hawks held that lead until late in the game with Drew University scored with less than four minutes left to escape with a 12-11 victory Saturday afternoon in a Landmark Conference game on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

The loss eliminated Susquehanna (8-8 overall, 2-4 Landmark) from the Landmark Conference tournament as Drew (11-6, 4-2) captured the final playoff spot with the victory.

Helena Woytovich and senior Ashley Rose Lynn each scored for the River Hawks in the first seven minutes as each team scored twice for a 2-2 game early.

Klair then scored to give Susquehanna the lead before Lynn and Klair each added their second goals of the game to push the lead to 5-2 midway through the first half.

Senior Liv Cohn and Caroline Rabiecki each scored goals for the River Hawks before the end of the period and Susquehanna held a 7-4 edge at the intermission.

In the second half, Woytovich and Klair each scored to extend the River Hawks lead to 9-4 less than four minutes into the period.

Drew answered with four straight goals in a span of 11 minutes to trim the lead to 9-8 with 14:40 left to play.

Klair scored to stop the run and Rabiecki added her second to give the River Hawks an 11-8 lead with 12:55 left on the clock.

The Rangers recaptured the momentum and scored the final four goals of the game including three free-position shots and one man-up goal.

Klair led the River Hawks with five points on four goals and an assist while Lynn finished with three points on two goals and an assist and Woytovich and Rabiecki each scored twice. Senior Shannon Kinney had five ground balls, four draw controls and five caused turnovers for Susquehanna.
