SU Women’s Soccer Falls to Misericordia at Home, 4-1

Boxscore

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna University’s sophomore defender Tara Brancato (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) scored her first career goal on a header off a corner kick, but SU dropped a 4-1 decision to Misericordia University at Sassafras Fields on Sept. 11.

Brancato jumped above a number of defenders to head in the corner from fellow sophomore defender Megan Stevens (Pipersville, Pa./Palisades) with just under 12 minutes remaining in the first half.

Crusaders sophomore midfielder Kelly Bassett (Westwood, N.J./Pascack Valley) had an opportunity to add another goal for SU (1-3 overall) with the Misericordia (4-0 overall) goalkeeper out of position, but an alert play by a Cougar defender stopped the shot from reaching the net.

SU’s freshman Rachel Norbuts (Woodstown, N.J./Woodstown) suffered the loss in all 90 minutes of play but made numerous diving saves throughout the game.  The first two shots Norbuts faced in the game, she had to lie out for. She also made a jumping save that hit off the crossbar late in the contest.

Next Game: Wednesday, Sept. 15, vs. Neumann University, 4:30 p.m.
