THE STORYLINE: The Susquehanna women's soccer team opened its 2016 season with a 2-1 home win over Lycoming in the teams' annual River Derby trophy game.
THE RECORDS: The River Hawks are now 1-0 while Lycoming starts the season 0-1.
THE STREAK: This marks back-to-back season-opening wins for SU as well as the team's third-straight win against the Warriors in the River Derby series.
THE TURNING POINT: Freshman Julia Hutsko scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 33rd minute of the contest. She scored off an assist from classmate Alee Pettit, giving the freshmen the first points of their collegiate careers.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: The River Hawks out-shot Lycoming 21-4 with 10 of shots on goal while holding the Warriors to a mere one shot on goal. SU's Emily Sullivan led all players with four shots while Chloe Eisenhuth, Geena Ragozine and Julia Hutsko had three apiece. Cassie Coombs scored an unassisted goal 33 seconds after Hutsko's score.
FOR THE WARRIORS: Jordan Lazarich scored in the 76th minute for Lycoming's only goal of the game.
UP NEXT: SU remains at home to host Albright on Sept. 4 at 1 p.m.
