Women's Soccer Remains Unbeaten with 1-1 Tie

The Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team opener its 2017 home season with a double overtime 1-1 tie in a non-conference match with Misericordia University on a rainy Wednesday night on Sassafras Field in Selinsgrove.

Susquehanna (2-0-1) scored first as Grayclynn Juckes scored 17 minutes into the first half with a through pass from Mairead Ruane to take the lead early in the match.

Jordyn Martini answered for Misericordia (2-0-1) with a goal in the 34th minute on a hard shot from 25 yards out just over the outstretched hands of Susquehanna goalkeeper Julia Tolin.

"That was a great team effort against as good a team as we will play all year," said Head Coach Nick Hoover. "I thought the defense played very well and prevented them from getting any shots from in close."

The defensive was the River Hawks biggest strength in this game. Julia Tolin made recorded seven saves to remain undefeated on the season.

"Julia made some big saves for us again tonight," said Hoover. "She showed that she deserved the Defensive Player of the Week award from the Landmark Conference."

Susquehanna will take on Hartwick at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in the Mayor's Cup event with a pair of games against the two colleges in Oneonta, N.Y. when they play SUNY Oneonta on Sunday.
