Weekend-Long Ithaca Invite Comes to a Close for SU Swimmers


ITHACA, N.Y. – The three-day Ithaca College Invitational came to a close on Sunday afternoon for the Susquehanna men's and women's swimming and diving teams. The SU women finished eighth of 12 teams with 418.5 points while the men placed ninth out of 11 squads after finishing with 434.5 points.

For the women, Kate Mays (Holland, Pa./Nazareth Academy) posted the top time for SU in the 1650 free (19:20.97) with teammate Morgan Sattler (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) seconds behind (19:27.92). Laura Micali (Brentwood, N.H./St. Thomas Aquinas) rounded out a trio of Crusaders in the event with her time of 19:51.84.

Kyle Seaman (Moreland Hills, Ohio/Orange) was 22nd in the 100 free with her time of 55.54 and Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) went 56.92 in the event.

In the 200 back, Erin McElwee (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) finished in 2:13.67 for the team's fastest time – and a PR – while Val Stearns (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) recorded a career-best time of 2:21.70.

Kelsey Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne's County) took home seventh overall in the 200 breaststroke after posting a time of 2:31.40. Alex Bornman (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) was just behind with an 11th-place time of 2:33.61 (a PR).

In the final women's event of the weekend, the 4 x 100 free relay team consisting of Bornman, Julia Doherty (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial), Caroline Henderson (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor Livingston) and Seaman earned seventh with a time of 3:47.56.

On the men's side, James Partain (Bound Brook, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) took home 17th in the 1650 free with his time of 18:11.59 and in the 100 free, Lucas Cherry (Falls Church, Va./George Mason) earned 12th with a time of 48.68. Jourdan Stewart (Danbury, Conn./Danbury) finished with a career-best time of 50.17 in the event while Duncan Frazier (Montgomery, Pa./Williamsport Area) went 50.72.

The 200 backstroke saw Eric Lawrence (Bethlehem Pa./Freedom) reel in 10th place with a personal-best time of 1:57.88, which also marked the second-fastest time in Crusader history. Teammates David Miller (Ithaca, N.Y./Ithaca) and William Crumrine (Beaver, Pa./Beaver Area) placed 23rd and 24th, respectively, with marks of 2:05.30 and 2:05.41 (a PR).

In the 200 breaststroke, Sam Calhoun (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) touched the wall in 2:17.39 for a 12th-place finish and Danny Csakai (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) was directly behind in 13th after a swim of 2:17.55.

In the final event of the three-day meet, the "A" 4  x 100 free relay team of Calhoun, Stewart, Frazier and Cherry combined for a time of 3:15.69, a mark that was good enough for seventh.

Both teams are off from competition until their annual winter break training trip which includes a Jan. 4 meet at New Tampa.
