The Susquehanna University Women's Swimming and Diving team won an unprecedented seventh consecutive Landmark Conference Championship last year and according to the 2017-18 Preseason Poll released Thursday afternoon, are the league favorites to win another championship.
The poll, as voted on by the league's head coaches, had Susquehanna at the top with 68 points and six of the eight first place votes. Scranton was second with 58 points and the other two first-place votes. Catholic University (48 points) was third followed by Drew (34), Marywood (23), Goucher (17), Elizabethtown (16) and Juniata (8).
"I think the poll this year shows how deep the conference is becoming for women's swimming and diving," said Head Coach Jerry Foley. "Many of the conference teams have improved from last season and it will be a challenge to defend the title this year."
Last year, the River Hawks won the team championship with a final team score of 842 points, Scranton was second with 578 ½ points and Catholic was third finishing with 559 ½ points.
Susquehanna opens the 2017-18 season October 20th with the annual Ged Schweickert Relays meet in the Garrett Center pool. The Landmark Championships are scheduled for February 16-18 in Germantown, Maryland.
