Led by Gabrielle Alguire and her first place finish in the javelin and Amy Kaschak with her second place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Susquehanna University Women's Track and Field team recorded 16 top-20 finishes at the 33rd Annual Jim Taylor Invitational Saturday in Selinsgrove.
Alguire nearly eclipsed her own school record in the javelin with a throw of 155' 4" which was just four inches shy of the school record set in 2015 at the Jim Taylor Invitational. The winning throw is also the longest in the country so far this season by a whopping 14 feet.
Kaschak ran an 11:27.06 in the steeplechase to finish second only to a Division I runner from Bucknell in the event. Her time is the 10th best in the country this season.
Additional top-10 finishes for the River Hawks included Carlye McQueen, who was 10th in the 100-meter dash, Samantha Reed who took 10th in the 200-meter dash, Maya Khanna, who was seventh in the triple jump and the tandem of Alysa Davey-Bostic and Sarah Rinaldi, who tied for ninth in the high jump
Rinaldi was also 11th in the long jump and Reed was 11th in the 100-meter dash for Susquehanna.
Top-20 finishers for the Susquehanna women included Erin Reese (13th in the 5K), Michelle Turnbach (18th in the 100-meter hurdles), Hannah Stauffer (15th in the 1500 meters), Hannah Perkins (13th) and Toni Alexander (15th) in the 400-meters and Tylinn Bitner (17th in the Hammer Throw and 16th in the discus).
The River Hawks will compete next at the Muhlenberg Invitational April 1.
