Senior Gabrielle Alguire won the Landmark Conference Championship in the javelin again for the Susquehanna University Women's Track and Field team Sunday and was voted by the conference coaches as the Female Field Athlete of the Year at the conference championship meet Sunday at Moravian College in Bethlehem.
Alguire made the winning throw on her third attempt of the day with a winning throw of 45.24 meters (148' 5") as only two other competitors cleared the 40-meter mark.
Alguire was not the only champion for the River Hawks as Jasmine Mitchell won the 100-meter dash with a winning time of 12.74 seconds and Amy Kaschak won the 3K Steeplechase with a Landmark Championship record time of 11:08.82 beating the old record by nearly six seconds.
The trio led the River Hawks to a third place finish in the team scoring with 105 points. Moravian was the team champion with 245 points and Elizabethtown was second with 224 points. Goucher (79) finished fourth, Catholic (64) was fifth and Juniata (54) was sixth.
Mitchell had company on the podium for the 100 meter dash with Carlye McQueen taking fourth and Samantha Reed finishing sixth. Reed was third and McQueen was seventh in the 200. Hannah Perkins took fourth in the 400 meters while Hannah Stauffer was third and Alexa Pietrini was eighth in the 800.
Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays took second for the River Hawks. The 4x100 consisted of Perkins, McQueen, Reed and Mitchell while the 4x400 was made up of Perkins, Stauffer, Pietrini and Toni Alexander.
Erin Reese followed up her strong 10K performance from Saturday with an eighth place finish in the 5K Sunday while Michelle Turnbach was eighth in the 100-meter hurdles and Katherine Mayer was eighth in the 400-meter hurdles.
