QUICK HIT: It did not take long for the Susquehanna volleyball team to rebound from a mid-week loss as the River Hawks went 2-0 on day one of the Union College Tournament.
THE SCORES: SU defeated Williams 3-0 (25-21, 25-11, 25-12) before going on to defeat Union, also in straight sets (25-18, 25-12, 25-23).
RIVER HAWKS RECORD: Susquehanna is now 4-2 on the season.
AGAINST WILLIAMS: After giving up 21 first-set points, the River Hawks gave up just 23 over the remaining two sets. SU hit for an impressive .252 attack percentage. Morgan Lowe led all players with 14 kills while Erin Byrne added six kills and four digs. Alyssa Chiodo racked up 18 digs while Kasey Bost added 15. Maggie O'Hearn tallied 24 assists and Leana Carvin added five block assists.
Set one was tied at 19 before the River Hawks scored six of the final eight points of the set. In the second set, SU went up 22-11 on a Williams service error and never surrendered another point. In the third and final set, Susquehanna led from start to finish after jumping out to a 7-1 edge.
AGAINST UNION: Lowe added another 11 kills to go along with six digs and Byrne finished with 10 kills. O'Hearn led all players with 30 assists and Chiodo added 11 digs.
SU never trailed in the opening set and led by four (17-13) before out-scoring Union 8-5 to win the set. A Union service error gave SU a 3-2 lead in the second set and the River Hawks never looked back en route to the 13-point victory.
Set three was a different story as SU had to mount a comeback. The team was down 23-16 late in the action before Lowe's kill tied it at 23-all. Susquehanna closed out the set and the match on a kill from Byrne that made it 24-23 and a Union attack error.
