QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna volleyball team split on day two of the 11th-annual Hampton Inn River Hawks Classic.
SCORES: SU lost to Geneva in its opening match 25-11, 19-25, 17-15, 25-19, 11-15. The River Hawks rallied to defeat SUNY Geneseo 25-11, 25-15, 25-18.
RECORD: Susquehanna is now 10-3 on the season.
BACK AND FORTH vs. GENEVA: SU opened its day with a decisive 25-11 victory over Geneva. Susquehanna boasted a .333 attack percentage and led by as many as 14. Sets two and three went the opposite way for the River Hawks who fell 25-19, 25-17. SU led 5-4 early on but Geneva tied it at five and Susquehanna never again held a lead in the set. In set three, Geneva led from start to finish after opening on a 5-1 run. SU rallied to win set four 25-19 but Geneva ended the fifth set on a 4-0 run to take the match by a 15-11 score.
AGAINST GENESEO: The River Hawks bounced back from a 3-2 loss in the morning to dominate SUNY Geneseo, winning 3-0. Susquehanna totaled 46 kills to Geneseo's 19 and boasted an impressive .343 attack percentage. In the first set, the River Hawks led from start to finish to win 25-11 while in the second set Geneseo took an early 2-1 lead but a kill from Maggie O'Hearn followed by back-to-back kills from Erin Byrne gave SU the 6-2 lead and Susquehanna never looked back, winning 25-15. Geneseo fought tough in the third set, tying the game four times before a kill by Byrne gave SU a 13-11 lead, a lead the team never relinquished in a 25-18 win.
STATS ON THE DAY: Marykate Sherkness led SU in kills with 26 while Morgan Lowe had 23 and Byrne followed closely with 21. Lowe also added seven digs while Byrne tallied six assists. O'Hearn had 68 assists and 11 digs on the day while Caroline Beohm contributed 34 digs.
