Senior Erin Byrne has earned another honor for her work in the classroom, as she has been named the 2016 Landmark Conference Volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete.
The Landmark Conference selects 20 senior scholar athletes each year to recognize the top student-athlete in each sport based on academics and athletics.
The honorees must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20 and are selected by a committee of Landmark, athletics directors, sports information directors, senior woman administrators, and faculty athletic representatives.
Byrne, a right side hitter and 3.70 GPA student as an Economics and Business Administration major, adds the Senior Scholar Athlete award to her list of academic accolades throughout her career, which included being on the Landmark Academic Honor Roll every semester eligible.
She has made Susquehanna's Dean's List each semester of her academic career, is a member of Alpha Phi Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta, Pi Gamma Mu, and Omicron Delta Epsilon. She also serves as an economics tutor and interned at Prudential Financial in New Jersey in the summer of 2016.
On the court, Byrne ended her final season at Susquehanna with 362 kills, a 2.83 kills per set average and totaled 66 blocks and 61 digs. For her career she had 1,465 total kills which ranks her sixth all-time at SU, 909 digs, 324 assists and 249 total blocks. Byrne led the River Hawks to a program record of 31 wins and an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament where they faced Clarkson in the first round at SUNY Brockport.
She was recently named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III All-America Honorable Mention team.
Upon graduating from Susquehanna University, Erin will continue her education at DI Florida International where she will continue her athletic pursuits as member of their NCAA Sand Volleyball program for the 2017-18 season.n Byrne has earned another honor for her work in the classroom, as she has been named the 2016 Landmark Conference Volleyball Senior Scholar Athlete.
