Hannah Lyons had 19 kills including 13 against Mary Washington as the Susquehanna University Volleyball team capped the weekend with a 3-1 victory over host Mary Washington University Saturday afternoon in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
Susquehanna (4-4) started Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Berry College (5-3) by set scores of 25-13, 25-18 and 25-10 but rebounded to play much better and handed Mary Washington, ranked No. 7 in the most recent American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, a 3-1 loss. The River Hawks won by set scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-18 and 25-23.
Lyons, with 13 kills, and Morgan Lowe, with 16 kills, led the River Hawks attack against Mary Washington as Sydney Portale added eight kills and Natalie Arm and Tara Mahoney each contributed six kills. Gabby Davis handed out 44 assists in the win while Caroline Beohm and Lowe each had 14 digs and Lizzie Herestofa added 12 digs for Susquehanna.
In the loss to Berry, Portale led the River Hawks with seven kills, Davis had 13 assists and Kasey Bost had 10 digs.
Susquehanna will host Dickinson at 7 p.m. Wednesday night and play host to the annual Hampton Inn Tournament over the weekend with Stevenson, Carnegie Mellon and SUNY Brockport traveling to Selinsgrove.
