Sophomore Erin Reese was the top finisher for the Susquehanna University Women's Cross Country team Saturday at the Gettysburg Invitational as she finished 10th overall out of nearly 300 runners to help the River Hawks to a ninth place team finish on the 6K course in Gettysburg.
The College of New Jersey won the team championship with 36 points and five runners in the top-20. Ohio Wesleyan (143 points) was second, St. Bonaventure (169) was third followed by West Chester (192), Gettysburg (205), Washington and Lee (228), Mount St. Mary's (231), Muhlenberg (253) and Susquehanna (269). The River Hawks finished ahead of 22 other teams in the 31-team field.
Reese crossed the line in 10th place with a time of 23:07.6 just one second out of ninth and 10 seconds in front of the 11th and 12th place finishers. Kailyn Reilly was the next River Hawks runner to finish as she took 22nd place with a 23:53.2. Hannah Stauffer was next in 38th position with a time of 24:25.2 while Emily Eck (111th) and Marissa Kleman (113th) rounded out the scoring for Susquehanna.
Susquehanna will host the Ashley Tomlinson Alumni Run next weekend in final preparation for the Landmark Championships on Oct. 28 at Juniata College.
